It hit us before we could prepare for it. All of the sudden we were working from home, ordering food to our doorsteps, and staying in our pajamas all day. Some people have gained what has affectionately been called the Covid 15, meaning 15 pounds that they didn’t expect to gain this year. At first, it was nice to be home, eat together, and be together, but now most of us just want to get out. Staying home all day can be draining physically, emotionally, and mentally. Here are 3 ways that we have found to stay active during the Covid 19 pandemic.

  1. Go on a run

The best part of running is that the only equipment required is a pair of shoes. Running is good for every skill level. You don’t have to go out and run a marathon, but a mile every day or every other day will do wonders for you physical and mental health

  1. Invest in some at home exercise equipment

I’m not talking about dumbbells and resistance bands. I’m talking about something that you enjoy doing, that will act as a break from your daily activities. Examples could include a basketball hoop, a spikeball net, an ultimate frisbee, a jump rope, pickleball paddles, etc. Buy something that you and your family can use for years to come!

  1. Make some home improvements

As you sit in front of your computer at home all day, your eyes and mind wander. You start to notice things about your home that can be upgraded or replaced. You start to look up DIY projects and think “I could do that.” The squeaky door, that flower bed with 4 ft tall weeds, the crayon on the wall from your toddler… Now is the perfect time to take some time out of your day to make some improvements. Getting out in the yard and sweating a little bit will provide the physical exertion you need to carry on with the rest of your priorities.

4. Put up a basketball hoop

There’s a reason why basketball hoops are so common in our communities. They are a simple addition that provides years of joy for your family. It also requires very little equipment. An adjustable basketball hoop is great because it provides fun for all ages. An in-ground hoop is going to stand the test of time more than a portable adjustable hoop. Plus, installing an in-ground hoop is a great way to learn a new skill! Make your backyard a place where your family can play and have fun together.

We can make it through this if we stay safe, stay active, and take things one day at a time.
