As the oldest of 4 boys, you can imagine growing up together was full of pranks, fights, dirt, and competition. One thing that always kept us together was sports. We had enough to play 2 on 2 in just about everything. Soccer, wiffleball, football, and especially basketball. I’ll never forget the day my dad came home with a brand new basketball hoop to put out in our driveway. We played on that hoop every day until the snow came, then we shoveled the snow to play even more. Every time our mom got tired of us, she would send us out to play until we wore ourselves out.

Basketball at home was a growing experience for us. Our backyard was heaven on earth. We learned about hard work, determination, how to deal with losing, and how to work on a team. Competition was so important for me growing up. Not only did it strengthen the relationship between me and my brothers, it also helped to develop my skills and mentality. Plus it helped me to stay in shape!

These days it is so important to get out and play together. We can get too caught up staring at our screens that we miss out on the opportunity to get outside. There are some things that can’t be learned from a video game. As parents, it is important to set aside time for your kids to get outside and play with each other. You will see the value that sports brings to the home. A simple adjustable basketball hoop can be an important addition to you home court. A basketball system provides a great way for families to get together and play.
